Show Reviews
I don't go to shows that much (no transport, no money etc.)
but I'll try to post reviews of all those I go to, and can remember.
Thursday
17 April 2003, Roxy's, Melville
Right. Last review. I went to this show so I could finally see what Gary Two-Teeth
and the Slashdogs sound like. So I wore my old Leek shirt and hoped for the
best. And it was well worth it. Even tho R30 is a little steep... Anyways,
first up was Ill Audio. They've really improved a lot since the last time
I've seen them. Great guitar solo's now too... Then was Gary Two-Teeth. Even
tho it seemed like they took two hours to set up (probably just because I
wanted to see them so bad) their show was worth the wait. Fuzigish was up
last and they were good too. The place was really really full, as in you could
hardly move around (there wasn't even space to put your feet down in the pit)
And the slashdogs crew tried to sell me a t-shirt twice. So sorry I dont have
money. I will buy next time. Oh yeah and I'm sooooooo unlucky. Eventually
someone decides to talk to me... while fuzigish is playing. And I'm half deaf
normally too. So that sucked. But the show was good. eheh

29 March 2003, warpFEST @ DJ du Plessis Building, Wits, Jhb
First of All, I got lost trying to buy tickets to this show, and ended up
in the middle of Soweto or somewhere, but finally I did get them. Read all
about it Here
Onto the show itself. Unfortunately the only way to describe this show is:
Disappointing. They only started an hour and a half later than they said they
would, and that meant that all the times were confusing and you coudn't be
sure when what band played and Petflyz didn't play. So the only punk bands
I saw were Contra Capital, Fatigue and Snapping Strings. The crowd sucked
too. And there wasn't nearly enough people. And personally I think the anime
hall thing was a bad idea. Not that I hate anime. But that seems to be all
that a lot of people did... watch anime. And I missed ACU because I was made
to watch... anime. ugh. And there were too many goths. At least they had decent
beer prices, except they ran out of Black Label later on. Do I have anything
good to say about this show? Unfortunately it doesn't seem like it.
Friday
7 March 2003 @ Carfax, Jhb
This was to be the best show ever since Frenzal Rhomb were playing. And it
wasnt bad, but it wasnt that great for me. Read on to find out why. First
I had to go to Roxy's so I could meet up with someone to follow to Carfax.
Then when we finally got there, we had to wait outside for about an hour before
the doors were opened and I had to stand in line for another half an hour.
At least during that time I bought a ticket while standing in line. If I ever
see the girls who sold me the ticket again - I owe you ; ) Okay that also
meant I missed Dunnaway cos I was standing outside waiting to get in. But
I did see Ska Tissue then inside, and the Vendetta Cartel's real last show,
and also Fuzigish. And all were good. Except that the beer prices was outrageous.
And have you ever tried to mosh with your pants falling down, a cellphone
and a camera in your pocket, your pocket's zip is broken and you're scared
the camera will fall out and youre scared you might smash something. I did.
Then I stopped as it was useless. Obviously I didnt have enough to drink.
I did get a T-shirt and the Fuzi-Frenzal Split too tho. Which meant I left
home with R240 and came back with twelve. And of course.............. guess
what! it always happens! I had to @^#&@^#(@#!@&#*#@# leave early!!
Wow, I bet you couldnt guess that! And I didnt get to see Frenzal Rhomb.
Saturday
15 February 2003 @ Mondeor Scout Hall, Mondeor (dah)
Three bands, R10. Lots of people. Great show. Got lost going to it. No alcohol.
All ages. Great pit. Missed first band. Other bands good. ummm thats all.
Friday
31 January 2003 @ Trotters, Boksburg
Right it's been ages since I updated this page, so here goes. Playing was
United Against the Establishment, Chaos 5.0 (don't forget the point 0) and
the Vendetta Cartel. It was supposed to be the Cartel's last show, which was
my inspiration to get there. It was the first time I saw UAE, they were pretty
good, I think. Chaos 5.0 I didnt watch, as I dont like them mwhahahahahaha,
and then I had to leave early AGAIN.
Friday
3 January 2003 @ Charelli's, Benoni
First you have to know - Charelli's is this small and cramped Italian restaurant
and bar. With this little teeny stage. Only Humphrey the Teacup played, it
was the release of their cd, and they had a special offer R100 for the shirt
and the cd. The show itself, was free. And it was good too. Just there was
no pit, a bit of a lack of space. There was a lot of candles though. This
time the whole of Humphrey wore American Fudge Factory shirts, that was kinda
strange, cos they all had these american flags on the shirts. But good show
anyways, even though it was all over by eleven.
Tuesday
31 December 2002-Wednesday 1 January 2003 @ Splash, Centurion
This was the Tuks FM Newyears party. I really didn't think I'd go but somehow
I ended up there thanks to my sister. I actually just wanted to go to watch
Leek and the Bouncing Uptones again, cause this was their last show until
March. So it also had the highest entry fee of any other show I've ever been
to, cause the other artists there were a little more popular (Karen Zoid (shudder)
and Boo) Entry fee was R60 btw. There was around 8000 people there making
it really big. There even was a strip-show before Leek. The crowd area was
on this platform over a pool and it was absolutely amazing. One part of it
even collapsed during Leek's show. That was the only show I watched, but from
what I saw from afar, the crowd was extremely
passive, compared to with Leek. By the way, Leek's show was brilliant. Yeah
that's about it, I think, except for some nice firewurx at midnight.
Friday
6 December 2002 @ the Purple Turtle, Boksburg
Ok, this was a good show. First was Jeboa (I'm not sure if I spelt
that right), they're a new band, and not that professional, they need a good
deal of work and it'll help if their guitar strings don't snap. Ignorance
is Typical was next. This band is amazing, I've said it before. They probably
have one of the best drummers in all the world (in my opinion). They played
their whole cd, Think before you swallow, from the start to the finish, switching
only tracks 4 and 5. Third was Ill Audio. Their's was a pretty good show.
Much much better than the last time I saw them. Or maybe it wasn't Ill Audio.
Who knows? Last was the Vendetta Cartel. This band is absolutely brilliant.
And Vinnie (Tall, skinny, spanish and with long tangled black hair) made the
wonderful comment "George Bush, die Poes" that means the twat. There
wasn't a pit on the first two bands, but there was a one on the third, and
the Vendetta Cartel had a wonderful pit.
Saturday
30 November 2002 @ Unity Skatepark, Alberton
This isn't one of the best shows I've gone
to. The setting sucked first of all. It was way too light. And there was lots
of guys there only because it's a skate park, not because of the punk rock
part. Well, Humphrey (first) was good as usual, but not on their best. Dunnaway,
next, was brilliant in my opinion. The next two bands, the Stevie Wonderfuls
and Ill Audio, weren't that good. As a matter of fact, I barely watched them.
The last band's name I don't know, but they were good. Except that it looked
as if they vocalist didn't want to be there, and I don't blame him. I would
have left as soon as I got there, if I hadn't paid the entrance fee first.
Saturday
26 October 2002 @ the Purple Turtle, Boksburg
Scheduled to play for Saturday night was Leek and the Bouncing Uptones, Mr.
Croxley, Humphrey the Teacup, The Stevie Wonderfuls and Aleda. I actually
went to the show to see Leek (because they're great and I've never seen them
before), Humphrey (because I have seen them before and yes, they are brilliant)
and Aleda (because they are spawned from the remains of Still Thinking and
since I really liked Still Thinking, I wanted to hear what Aleda sounded like)
First up, around 9 o' clock was, however, some other band that I have never
seen before and that only played because it was someone's birthday. I think
they were Ill Audio, but I'm not too sure, if you were there and you know,
please tell me. They were just great nonetheless. Next was Mr. Croxley. I
have seen them once before and either the sound really sucked at the last
place or they've improved considerably. Their guitarist was great, doing solo
after solo and it seemed as if their show went on for an hour or more, I'm
not sure exactly, but it did go on for a long time. Around 10:45 or thereabouts
Humphrey the Teacup came on. As always they were great and very funny (this
time they had a hula hoop on stage) And besides me wondering if I'll have
to leave before Leek or not, I don't remember anything too remarkable about
their show except for a woman jumping on stage and showing everyone her breasts.
Leek was (unfortunately) the last band I saw Saturday night. And if I have
to choose, I'd say it was one of the best performances I've ever seen. They
are a bit older than the other bands and it really shows, overall their show
was very very good. Oh yeah, another breast flashing happened there too. Unfortunately
I had to leave at about ten to twelve, near the end of Leek's show. And I
left, a 129 rand poorer (I couldn't help myself from buying a Leek shirt),
very happy. Hopefully I'll get to see another great show like that soon.
